So, in the past year I “came out” as a Democrat. For over a decade I have been a proud Independant, but recently I became frustrated with the lack of voices heard, and more importantly the voices I did hear weren’t agreeable. As you’ve probably noticed I’m liberal, and depending on your politics I may be considered a raging liberal.

This year’s convention is the first ever that I was not only interested in, but entertained by. Most years I vaguely remember there being conventions because I knew someone going to them, but certainly they didn’t hold much interest.

Listening to my aging friend Jimmy Carter last night and seeing Barack Obama tonight I am convinced that I’ve made the right decision. I can be a Democrat!

My reasons for not joining sooner were mostly because of the candidates – and the fact that I vote for people not parties. That will continue to be the case, but I feel that the Democratic party can better reflect my politics now. I hope that continues to be the case.
